4 Paws 4 Mason and Olivia

Much needed update

May 4, 2012
So it's been awhile since I updated Mason's website.  Pippi had to go back to 4 Paws for some additional training she will be coming home within the next couple of weeks!

Mason and Olivia were recently diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Glut 1 Deficiency Disorder, and we believe this is the cause of their seizures because it can cause Epilepsy.  Olivia's seizures seem to be worse than Mason's he is doing really well.  His doctor wants to see him go back to school next year so I think we are going to give it another try.  He is very excited.

They both are going to have 24 hour EEG's within the next couple of weeks to see what their seizure activity looks like now.  We tried the modified atkins diet for awhile but it didn't work for us, so we are going to maybe try some different medications.

Well I think that is about it for now, will post again soon.

Seizure monitors

January 8, 2012
We have been approved by a new non profit Fund It Forward to receive 2 Emfit seizure monitors for Olivia and Mason at no cost to us.  All we had to do was apply. They will be having several fundraisers for other families that have needs for equipment that insurance will not cover, if you can support their cause in any way please do!!!

Pippi

October 14, 2011
Well we successfully made it through training for Pippi.  She is a great dog, and fits in with our family well.  She began alerting seizures within the first few days that we had her.  We take her everywhere with us, she has been able to attend school with Mason a for a few hours a week.  They are still working on bonding, Mason has special toys he uses when he plays with her, he has treats to get her to stay in bed.  4 Paws is an amazing place, and they do wonderful things for all these spec...

New meds

March 5, 2011
So as a result of the EEG we had done in January that showed multiple seizures we made the decision to add a new medication to the Trileptal he was already taking.  At first he was super tired and very cranky, he missed several days of school.  He has been on it for about a month and 1/2 and he has adjusted.  We go back to the neurologist next week.  So far so good.  Thank you for all the prayers!!

Seizures

January 7, 2011
Took Mason to the neurologist and they did an EEG.  We found out that his is having a lot of seizure activity in several parts of his brain!  The doctor said to expect Mason to have a grand mal seizure it is more than likely to happen.  He has a lot going on when he sleeps so we will be making some changes at home until we get his seizure dog.  We have to get blood work done and then go back and talk about adding an additional medication to help eliminate some of the seizures.  I will keep ev...

WE DID IT!

November 26, 2010
Now that we have completed our fundraising requirement for 4 Paws we will travel to Xenia in September 2011.  We are required to stay there for 10 days to complete training with Mason's new partner.  We will be responsible to pay for all travels expenses, including hotel, food, and transportation.  We will need to raise $5000 to cover those expenses.

School

October 30, 2010
Mason is doing very well in school, we have had a few behavior issues that we are working through.  We have been lucky so far no seizures that have been noticed at school that we know of.  I know there are a lot of kids in his class so I am sure he probably has had one it just wasn't noticed, which is ok he is doing ok not getting too tired.  So far so good!
